The iDental difference

Modern dentistry incorporates an extensive array of treatment procedures. At iDental, we want to make sure you get the most out of your appointments with us, your teeth stay healthy for life, and you benefit from total health. Our friendly team delivers complete dental care, and will even show you how to best maintain your smile between checkups!

What does an examination involve?

A regular and thorough examination will allow us to monitor and detect any problems with your teeth, fillings and gums in the earliest stages. This means that we detect small problems before they are harder to manage. We’ll thoroughly clean your teeth, while looking out for signs of gum disease, cavities and jaw joint problems. In many cases, we’ll also take detailed X-rays to check for any problems that may be hiding below your gum line or jaw bone. A regular checkup will allow us to identify the best treatment to rectify issues early, before they have a chance to develop into something more serious.

What happens during a hygiene treatment?

Although your regular oral hygiene routine is vitally important, our dental team will also thoroughly clean and scale your teeth. This will involve removing any build-up of plaque and tartar, and stains, which can cause gum disease. We will also advise you of the best techniques to use at home.

What is a filling?

The fillings that we use at iDental are made from composite resin materials or porcelain, depending on the problem. The best filling will repair damage and and improve the appearance of both the tooth and your smile.

What happens at a child's dental visit?

Kids learn how to brush their teeth and also what is involved with a dental visit from an early age. We encourage you to bring your children from the age of 3. We are friendly and accomodating, so we only do what your child will let us do. This might take a few visits to get to cleaning, and that is okay. Our friendly team will work to ensure your child’s dental visits are fun, and that their teeth, facial bones and dental arch are developing properly.

How often should I visit a dentist?

Generally most people should visit every six months for a checkup and clean. Once every two years we will likely take routine dental xrays, and once every 5 years a medicare-covered full mouth X-ray (OPG).
However, as dental needs vary, we’ll closely evaluate and monitor your oral health, and customise our care to perfectly meet your needs. At the end of each appointment, we should have a good idea of when we’ll need to see you again.

Family Dentist

Great dental health begins at an early age, and it is important that the whole family have good hygiene. The iDental team are a kids friendly dentist, looking after kids as young as three, all the way to older adults.
The main goal of dentistry for children at our family dental clinic is to provide a warm, caring environment along with quality dental service to support and maintain the oral health of children from a young age. Our services in dentistry for children includes a complete oral hygienic solution as we aim to set the foundation for children and their lifelong positive dental habits.

Digital Xrays

Digital radiography (x-rays) is the latest technology used to detect dental disease. This technique uses a sensor plate that captures the digital image. Digital x-rays reduce radiation by a large percentage compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.

Dental x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool which provide vital information. We use them to safely and accurately detect hidden problems and to complete a thorough diagnosis. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.

Dental Check & Clean

Oral hygiene is paramount, and no one knows this more than us. At iDental, we will schedule your hygiene visits to suit your particular dental health status. Some patients need regular 3-monthly hygiene visits, others need 4-monthly or 6-monthly programs.
Our dental team will look after you and your dental health. You can book your dental hygiene visit online in our Balwyn Dental clinic.

We will discuss your overall health, teeth and gum status and any preventive measures that we recommend. This might include fissure sealants, toothbrush recommendations and oral hygiene improvements to keep your teeth healthy.

No more impressions

Taking physical impressions can be a lot to handle, particularly if you have a sensitive tongue and palate. We have invested in a 3D dental scanner so that we can make your visit as comfortable as possible. The scanning head is small and warm, so that you can sit back and relax. No more gagging!

Tooth Jewels

Tooth jewellery, or tooth gems are tiny, decorative attachments that are bonded to the teeth with the same adhesive used for brackets for braces.

What types are there?

Tooth jewellery comes in a variety of colors, sizes, and even shapes. It can be made out of gold, diamonds, glass stones or just diamante.

How are tooth gems applied?

The application process is a simple and safe cosmetic procedure, which is best performed by a dental professional. The dental jewellery is bonded onto the tooth in the same way as an orthodontic bracket. It won't damage the tooth or remove any tooth structures, and doesn't need any special maintenance. It can last for years or longer.

Do tooth gems damage the tooth?
If you don't like it at any point, the gem and adhesive material can be removed without damaging the tooth.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a dental filling?

A tooth filling can cost you between $200 and $300 depending on the size and tooth filling material involved. Other factors include the location of the tooth and the number of tooth surfaces to be filled.
Porcelain materials can cost more, but last much longer.

What is a dental filling?

A dental or tooth filling is a repair process used by a dentist to fix a hole or cavity in the tooth back to health. The tooth needs to be cleaned and the decay and bacteria removed using a dental drill. This is driven by air, so makes a high pitched sound. The dentist will then use a filling to repair and fill in the hole.

The filling protects the tooth from further decay, helps with chewing, and restores your smile and confidence. A tooth filling is also used to restore broken and worn-down teeth, which can occur due to trauma or grinding.

Can I eat after a dental filling?

You can eat after a tooth filling after a suitable waiting time has elapsed once local aesthetics has worn off. Composite resin fillings are ready to use immediately as we set them with blue light. It is important to be careful whilst numb to protect your lip and tongue. Sometimes a tooth can be sensitive after it is worked on, but in most cases this is temporary and will resolve by itself in a few days.

Can you fix broken teeth?

Yes we can. Most teeth that are broken can be filled to look and fill like a natural tooth again. Where a tooth is badly broken or decayed, we might ask you to consider a crown. A crown is stronger than a filling and will hold the tooth together better.
In Balwyn Melbourne, iDental also has emergency dental times available for you. We also work with an emergency clinic for after hours serious emergencies so that you are looked after.

How long does a filling take? How long does a filling last?

A tooth filling takes an hour or less to be completed at iDental Balwyn. Often we try to complete a couple of teeth in once visit so that our treatment is planned to save you time.

Dental fillings usually last many years, but are not permanent. The size of the filling, the shape of the tooth and a few other factors will determine how long a filling will last. If you have had the experience of constant filling breakage, it is time to speak to Dr Giulia at iDental Balwyn, Melbourne. She is honest with your needs and her recommendations.
