Dental implants have been used successfully for many years to replace missing teeth. Implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth, or to support dentures securely. Once permanently fixed within your mouth, the implant will be strong enough for the forces of chewing and normal function. The appearance of your smile will be refreshed by filling out unsightly gaps left by teeth that have been lost.

Frequently asked questions

implant
What are implants?
Dental implants are placed in the jaw-bone to act as a tooth root. Bone grows on the implant so that it becomes permanently fixed, or “osseo-integrated”. A porcelain crown, or row of porcelain crowns, is then attached to the implant, so that it functions and looks like regular teeth.

How successful are implants?
Dental implants have been used routinely for more than 15 years. The success rate of implants is greater than 97%, but varies with your medical history and smoking status.

What is the process?

During your consultation, models, xrays and a CT scan will be organised. The exact costs and procedure will be discussed with you. During the treatment appointment, the implant will be placed with a single, minimally invasive surgery. The implant is placed into the jawbone, and left to heal for a few months. Once healed, a permanent crown will be constructed and fitted.

Does the procedure hurt?
Dental implants can be placed comfortably by using local anaesthetic to numb the area.

What are the benefits of an implant?

Dental implants have several benefits over alternative treatments for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants require no support from adjacent teeth, so the adjacent teeth retain their integrity and strength. Having an implant placed helps maintain gum and bone levels in a stable and aesthetic position.
